Gong hei fat choy! Happy New Year!
Thank you to Wah Lum Kung Fu Temple of Orlando and all of their talented performers!
Many Lunar New celebrations often include a traditional lion dance, which is thought to bring good luck.
The dance begins outside, then as the lion enters the building he will look for a head of lettuce, which will typically be found hanging above the doors of the entrance.
The lion eats the lettuce, then scatters the leaves to symbolize a fresh start for the new year and the spreading of good luck.
When cleaning up the lettuce, always sweep INTO the building, and never OUT. (If you sweep outward, it means you’re sweeping away all of your luck!)
